I was born in Czechoslovakia and grew up in Prague. I studied design and later painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. I moved to England in 1995 and my first book was published by Walker Books in 2001. Since then, I have written and illustrated more than 25 picture books and a similar number of board books. Occasionally I illustrate for other authors such as Nicola Davies and Joyce Dunbar. My main publishers are Walker Books and Otter-Barry Books. Discovering the world of picture books is one of the best things that has ever happened to me.
